Who Is This Guy?

Hello Hello. I'm just a native San Franciscan Nerd. Here lie my Thoughts, Hopes and Dreams. Occasional rants as well. The Weekly Accident has been my pride and joy since the Spring of 2008.

Lately It's so quiet

Firstly, I’d like to thank all of you out there for the birthday wishes. It doesn’t feel all that different being 18, but we’ll see what happens.

Looks like I’m making a habit out of blogging once every two weeks. That’s certainly something I’d like to kick. As I’ve said one too many times, it’s been a rough readjustment back to school. I feel the burden of school work, all my Student Government stuff, and not to mention college apps. Jeez, college apps. Recently, I’ve been real freaked out by college apps. I fear for my academic future, maybe unrightfully so. I mean, there’s just a lot that needs to be done. I don’t know who I need to ask for letter’s of recommendation, how to approach it, and exactly what to put on my fact sheet. The idea of letters of recommendation is just very odd. Go about and ask teachers to say good things about you to get in to college. That should be fun. Hopefully I’ll be able to scrounge up enough letters in enough time. Hehe. Secondly, there’s the whole issue of test scores. Now I consider myself pretty decent when it comes to school work. I usually do fairly well in my classes and have a sound understanding of the materials. However, when it comes to standardized tests, such as the SAT, I always seem to find myself at a loss. I’m just not prone to do well on it. I don’t know what it is, but those kind of tests just get to me. Despite my test handicap, I don’t really know what it measures. To some extent, it’s not my academic ability being tested, but my ability at taking this specific test. I mean I know people who do phenomenally on these tests, and good for them, they’ll probably get into a good school, and grow up and get a good job. I’ve been working on it, but my brain just isn’t tuned to for that kind of thinking.

What exactly is a good college anyways? Is it a school that’s known to have rigorous academic studies and a seasoned bunch of respected professors? Or is it someplace where you feel comfortable and will ultimately benefit you the most, and contribute to your overall success?

Well that’s enough of that. Let’s get into a little bit of nerd talk.

On the front end, I’d like to talk a little bit about the new Magic: The Gathering set coming out, Zendikar. I had a chance to play in a prelease tournament for the still unreleased cards this weekend, and boy was it fun. I really enjoy the feel of the set, which is set in an Indiana Jones-like adventuring land, where the land runs wild and many treasures are yet to be discovered. I even scored a couple of good cards, one in particular that I’ve been wanting for a long, long time. Take a peek at my new best friend, Nissa Revane.

On a different side of the nerd spectrum; COMIC BOOKS! Been reading a lot of singles lately, as well as making my way though a little of the Captain Britain Omnibus. Besides for that, I’ve been checking out a lot of artists’ online work. Two such creators would be Corey Lewis, of Sharknife fame, and Becky Cloonan, whom we all know and love from works such as Demo, Pixu and American Virgin. The main reason why I threw these two out there, is they both have two webcomics that look really awesome. Becky’s is only up to the third page, so everyone should go a head and jump on board. Lewis’ is a little farther a long, but looks just as awesome. However, I am finding trouble finding the early entries of the series. If anyone knows where I can find these, please let me know.

Until next time, GO TEAM!
