Hella Soysauce
Monday, September 14, 2009 at 9:38PM It’s been an intense time as of late in Tristanville. Meetings left and right. Busy weekends. Hopefully this post will keep you remotely abreast of what I’ve been up to. It’ll be tough.
First and foremost, I had the great pleasure of seeing Blink-182 this weekend. Traveled all the way Wheatland Amphitheatre (a.k.a. The Middle of Nowhere) for it. There was one closer the night following, but that’ was a school night, and I’m a Lowell Student. All I have to say is WOW. It was amazing. A little back story: For the longest time all I ever listened to was Weird Al, like many misguided elementary school boys back in the day. Then my cousin exposed me to the wonders of the Gorillaz, the first band I ever bought CDs for. And then in the 6th grade, I was watching TV, and it happened. There
was a Blink-182 music video. I was hooked. So we go back that far. To think that the band broke up my
7th or 8th grade year is a little crazy. I never thought I would have this a band, a group who I’ve listened to for close to 7 years of my life, would ever reunite to perform an epic show of awesomeness. Lo and behold, it happened. Now, don’t get me wrong, the other bands who performed, (Chester French, Taking Back Sunday, Weezer) are all talented groups, I just don’t have the connection with any of them as I do with Blink. THERE’S NO HISTORY. Blink-182 truly stole the show. They really got me with “Don’t Leave Me”, “Anthem Pt.2”, “Always” and just about every other song they played. I managed to record some shoddy audio with my iPhone, which I might throw up on the stream later, so you can listen to me singing along.
IN OTHER NEWS, I’ve been reading a lot of comic books. What else is new? There have been some pretty good books coming out lately. Off the top of my head, titles that come to mind include Nick
Fury’s Secret Warriors, X-Men/Dark Avengers Utopia, all Marvel’s Cosmic Stuff and all the Blackest Night Books. War of Kings is over, and we’re watching what’s going down. And I have to say, I’m almost more excited for what’s about happen than I was for WoK. And that’s saying a lot. OHH, and I recently read Sharknife. Hopefully I’ll have a full post about that later.
Recently Dungeons and Dragons Online has taken a new direction. They’ve gone free to play. For those unfamiliar with DDO, it’s an MMORPG based on the famous pen and paper role playing game Dungeons and Dragons. They used to have the standard, subscription based system, like most MMOs do. Recently, they’ve moved to the ever popular Micro-Transactions system, allowing player to play for no cost, and give them the capability to purchase “convenience items” for the players’ hard earned money. I haven’t been playing that long (a few days at best), but so far it’s just OK. We’ll see though, I’m still in the beginning area, and it’s hard to judge a game by that.
Musically, I’ve been trying to find some new stuff to listen to. I recently stumbled upon a type of music known as “chiptune”, a style of music that focuses on using sound board from old video games and synths to produce a pleasing beat. So far so good. A few artists that I’ve really been digging include She and IAYD. She’s really awesome and super danceable, where IAYD is a little heavier, but boogielicious and pleasing none the less. It’s pretty easy to come across their tracks, as both artists offer free downloads on their respective sites.
AND THERE YA GO. You’re pretty much up to speed. Hopefully my frequency will improve as I learn to cope with my increasingly busy schedule. GO GUARDIANS!1!
