Who Am I?
If you’re reading this, then you want to know a little more about me. Fancy yourself a detective, do you? Alright then Batman, I’ll lay a little something out for you. My name is Tristan A. Leder. What the A. stands for is not wholly important for the understanding of my character, but if you must ask, please feel free to do so. I was born September 19th, 1991, this makes my birthday 9/19/1991. Kinda cool right? I know.
I started the Weekly Accident in either April or May of 2008. Hopefully, if you’re reading this, you may have some idea of what the weekly accident is. If you don’t, well, it’s a little blog I like to run talking about “geek culture” if you will. Comics, movies, video games, music, the internet, the works. This is currently the second generation of the site. The first one was not quite as easy on the eyes, trust me.
I’ve grown up a nerd, just the way it happened. Watched low budget Sci-Fi movies with my dad on Sunday afternoons. New Years day not only meant the start of a new year, but a marathon of the Twilight Zone. I got my first game console, the majestic N64 in the first or second grade, and my life was decided. I fell in love with games like Ocarina of Time, Gex, Glover, Star Fox and an odd game, Chameleon Twist. Once I’d had my first taste of Pokemon on my Gameboy Pocket, it was over. From then on I was a hardcore Poke-Addict, and still am to this day. The first MMORPG I ever played was in the 5th grade believe it or not. Dark Age of Camelot. It was the bomb.
When I entered middle school, I started watching a little channel known as Tech TV. This may have been one of the most important things to have happened in my life. This may sound a little odd, I know, but there is some reasoning behind it. It started off with a program called Anime Unleashed. It introduced me to really awesome shows like Last Exile, Serial Experiment Lain, Betterman, Silent Mobius, ROD TV and many other animated gems. Eventually, I began to expand my Tech TV watching into some of their other shows. X-play, The Screen Savers, and even Unscrewed were programs that I watched more and more. Eventually the little station that could was shut down, bought out by Comcast and turned into G4TV. Soon enough, the people whom I had grown up watching and loving, Leo Laporte, Patrick Norton, Sarah Lane, Kevin Rose, Jessica Corbin, they all got the axe. G4 was depriving itself of the talent that drew me to it. Later on in life I would out that many of these “celebrities” has migrated over to the internet, and begun producing content there. It was then I realized what exactly it was what I wanted to do with my life. These people were my idols.
What’s probably a surprise to many, one of my most pronounced nerd features, my addiction to Comic Books, didn’t start until towards the end of my freshmen year in high school. The weekend that Spider-Man 3 came out to be exact. I’d wanted\read the funny books for awhile, and just didn’t know where to jump in. The massive stories that had taken place that I had no idea about, always appeared daunting. Finally, with the help of the iFanboy video show (which I had found on Revision3, a company made up of ex- Tech TV employees), I decided what would be a good place to start. It was that weekend, I went out and bought the first two trades of Ultimate Spider-Man, from what I had heard, and excellent comic to start on. From then on, I would go to a semi-crappy comic shop about once or twice a week, and pick up the next two or three trades in the series, burning through birthday and Christmas money that I had stored away. This process continued until I had caught up with USM in issues. From there I started to catch up with volumes of POWERS, Y: The Last Man, and Invincible. Those were my golden years of comics reading. Where I had thrown my self head first into a shit storm, no clue what I was getting myself into.
So that’s pretty much my geekdom spelled out in a couple of paragraphs. Hope it helps explain a few things. Have more questions? Feel free to send me an\ email or hit me up on Twitter. And if you’ve read this far, pat yourself on the back. Ya done good.
